Having requested samples of the actual packaging from the manufacturer, the next step would have required a photo shoot to obtain “glamour-shots” of the finished pieces. But manufacturers can be slow to deliver samples, and photographers can be expensive.

Framework Media was contacted to discuss other options. Recommending a “virtual photo shoot”, 2-D print-ready JPEG images of the designs were wrapped around 3D boxes sized to the dimensions of the original packages. These 3D boxes were rendered as both low- and high-resolution images, using various lighting and shadow techniques to deliver the desired look.
The low-resolution images were imported into an interactive Macromedia Flash movie that displayed different images of the boxes depending upon the position of the mouse in the screen. The end result is an interactive display that allows site visitors to “spin” the box inside the browser by moving the mouse left or right. The high-resolution renderings were generated for use in web or print collateral that required higher quality images.

The total project was completed in one week, just in time for the launch of the new web site.
